Accessibility

The people most likely to need this site are the people most likely to be using an old phone, a slow connection, a screen reader, or all three. Accessibility is not a compliance box here — it is the core use case.

Our standard

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. In practice that means visible keyboard focus on every interactive element, color contrast that meets the AA threshold, text that scales without breaking layout, alternative text on meaningful images, semantic headings, and respect for reduced-motion preferences.

Specific choices we made

  • No color-only meaning. Category colors are decorative; every category is also labeled in text.
  • Real text, not images of text. Everything is selectable, searchable, and readable by assistive technology.
  • Works without JavaScript. All guides and resource pages are fully readable with scripting disabled. Only the interactive tools require it.
  • Light pages. We avoid heavy frameworks so pages load on slow connections and older devices.
  • Plain language. We write at a reading level appropriate for a general audience and define jargon the first time it appears.

Known limitations

Photographs on this site are currently decorative placeholders and carry empty alternative text, which is correct for decorative images but means they add nothing for screen reader users. Our interactive tools require JavaScript and will not function with it disabled.
